Air Pump Powered Sponge Filter These air powered internal filters work as an air lift pump. Air is forced into the pipe through a hose using an air pump. The air draws the aquarium water into the tube, the water flows through the fine mesh sponge and thereby cleans the aquarium water mechanically. Nitrifying bacteria, important for pollutant degradation, remain in the optimized sponges. These filters are ideal for rearing larvae and juvenile fish that would otherwise be lost in normal filters due to their small size and swimming behavior.
